If you’re like most people, you may not be sure of what kind of business is right for you.
There are many things to study such as, is this a new idea? How much market share is there in my area? How much room for expansion? Of course, most people want to start something new and different, a business that will corner the market, but how to make that happen?
Mark Twain is famous for saying that there are no new ideas, but most people don’t realize that the whole quote is more expansive.
“There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope. We give them a turn and they make new and curious combinations. We keep on turning and making new combinations indefinitely; but they are the same old pieces of colored glass that have been in use through all the ages.” – Mark Twain
Many have chosen to see this as a glass half empty type of situation, where I have always viewed it as a challenge. In my case, this came in the form of finding an innovative way to tackle an issue that was cropping up in my maid service, blind cleaning. I took this problem, that was certainly not new, mixed up the pieces, and came out with a lucrative business model.
Taking the time to contemplate all your options, do your research, decide on your level of commitment, and take the steps to become a business owner are all vital steps to success. Success doesn’t just happen. Success comes to those who take control of their lives and make it happen.
